I work with the patient to lessen the stress that pain causes on brain function and emotional responses, helping the patient to replace negative and catastrophic thoughts common to unmanaged pain, with more positive and calming thought processes.
Mindfulness and relaxation techniques are also extremely helpful in retraining the brain’s response to pain which in turn can lower the felt intensity of it and help to reduce overall stress levels.
